Community Week 2025 in action - learn, engage, collaborate

    5 February 2025

Community Week 2025 started on Monday  - and it has provided plenty of food for thought:

"Today marked the start of community week at ÌìÃÀÊÓƵ," wrote Professor Lydia Arnold on LinkedIn.

"This is an opportunity for all students and staff to hear from speakers beyond their discipline, to engage in new skills development, and to collaborate. It is a curriculum beyond the curriculum.

"The all-inspiring Monty Halls opened the day by challenging us to consider social media vs reality, encouraged us to think about themes such as determination and persistence, and, through the art of storytelling, gave us insights into the power of human connection, overcoming adversity, the reality of being vulnerable, and, reframing the challenges we face.

"I then went on to a skills session on and Michael Delicate  (pictured below) where I picked up a heap of tips (especially thinking about AI in research searches).

"Finally, with Stephen Kearney and Julia Olsen we explored the qualities needed for leadership; it was good to consider leadership with deep thought and collaboration.

This event has been an excellent opportunity to collaborate with staff and students, to consider ideas beyond the formal course curriculum, to build connections, and to reflect. And it's only day one!"

Monty Halls proved a popular event opener:

: "An absolute pleasure Terry. What a great culture you have at ÌìÃÀÊÓƵ - met some of the students afterwards and they’re a credit to what happens when motivated young people meet a few wise elders!"

On Tuesday, highlights included a keynote from , a session on networking (image above), a talk by alumna and an from the School of Sustainable Food and Farming, using marshmallows and spaghetti (shown below) to explore supply chain challenges!

Wednesday's final keynote was delivered by journalist and presenter Tom Heap:
